The business of tourism in Catalonia has plummeted since the split claims of Spain sprouted. Losses estimated at 1 billion euros, or about Rp 19 trillion. Though this area is in great demand by foreign travelers.
The Spanish tourism services association, in a statement to the media, said the area in the northeast is currently lethargic, including hitting almost all business sectors.
"The tourism sector was hardest hit, booking places fell sharply," said Agusti Colom, chairman of the Association.
Since the independence referendum was held on October 1, 2017, Catalonia is estimated to suffer from a decline in tourism business to 15 percent when compared to the same period last year.
"The hotel and transportation customers until the end of December plummeted about 20 percent," Euronews wrote.
The decline is very detrimental. If the crisis in Catalonia prolonged until the end of 2017, then the loss is expected to touch the number 1 billion euros or about Rp 19 trillion.
